Poem: The Story of My Life

Since April is the National Poetry Writing Month 2016, I thought I would pen some verses. So here is a short poem on how my friendship with words began…

It all started one summer morn

When the fruits were ripe but the wheat was shorn.

I sat on a tree thrice adream,

Watching the bubbling stream.

My hand clutched a pen,

As fancies left their den,

And gaily did they flutter,

Until they lifted my mind’s shutter.

I wrote then my first ever line

And merrily did the letters shine,

As I sat on a tree away from strife,

Telling the story of my Life.

Dogs barked and birds twittered,

But I let my hand move unfettered

For there was a strange joy within me,

And also in the World that I could see.

I realised then that Imagination

Would soon break the chains of Convention

And set forth the heroic knights

Who would utter the story of my Life.

Then my eyes adored the Sunlight streaming

And the mighty words that were forming,

As fictitious men died in battle

and magical princes merrily did prattle.

A mere child I was then,

But now Wisdom has opened my Eye.

Yet, even now, the desire does run through me wild

That yearning to tell the story of my Life.

    1. Thank you so much! My novel will probably be out late this year. I’ll let you know once I get a finalized date! 🙂

  1. It’s not often that someone fascinates me. Especially not a fifteen year old someone. 😉 you had me hooked at the archaeology and literature part in your about page. Kudos to you girl!! I can’t wait to get a hold of your novel! Good luck!! 🙂 ❤

    1. Thank you so much! It’s only because of encouraging people like you that kids like me find the strength to break conventions. Believe me, you’ll never be able to guess how much your words have touched me! I promise that you’ll be the first I’ll inform when my book’s out. You made my day! 😀

      1. For someone who aspires to be a writer, and was not taken seriously by a lot of people, I really know what encouragement can do to you! 🙂 I really, really hope you become an archeologist-writer. (Both are like way top in my bucket list ❤) I’m like five years elder to u, so I guess what we both face ain’t much different.
